As the development and application of information technology, digital library uses automatic identification technology to enhance management efficiency and service quality. Barcode and RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology both belong to automatic identification technology. From 70s in 20th century till now, barcode technology as library collection identification method has been widely used in library. While RFID technology was used in library from the end of 90s in 20th, and developed more quickly.Based on the performance advantadge of RFID in library management and service, many university libraries have begun RFID study and project implementation, learning the application functions, frequency and mode of RFID, and studying data model of RFID tag and system arichtecture. Just because of this, this paper proposed the subject, the application and study of RFID technology in university library. Through the methods of documentary and empirical research, it is aimed at providing scientific guidance and proposal for RFID application in the university library.First, this paper introduces operating prociple and application performance of different automatic identification technology. Compared to barcode technology, high application performance and value make RFID more appropriate for management and service of university library in future. Then this paper illustrates application functions, frequency and mode of RFID in university library.Second, this paper mainly studies data model rule of RFID tag. Based on application needs of university library and exsiting domestic and overseas data model standard of RFID, it establishes data model rule of RFID tag, defining written data content, data format and data security.Thrid, this paper chiefly analyzes application architecture of RFID system. It sets up library business process under RFID data flow and three layers system architecture figure including RFID system layer, middleware layer and library management system layer. Then has a detail illustration on hardware equipment, software system, middleware and network environment in the whole RFID application architecture. Finally, based on the above theoretical research this paper makes application model investigation from practice view. Taking Shanghai Jiao Tong University Library RFID testing system as application model, it iullstrates hardware and software environment, data model of RFID tag and application mode of RFID system. Then it realizes some fuctions and summarizes operating process.Innovations of this paper have the following three aspects:It formulates data model rule of RFID tag in university library. Its specificalities include the following four points:Contain written data content, data format and data security, comprehensive and high applicability. All the written datas are essential, which satisfy needs of practical bussiess.Set shelf location data to enhance sorter work efficiency, and to guarantee its regular operation under off-line state.Adopt double AFI and type of usage data as safety protection method. It proposes a new business process on RFID data flow for library, and establishes application architecture of RFID system, including RFID system layer, middleware one and library management system one.Theory research combines pratical application. Taking Shanghai Jiao Tong University Library RFID testing system as application mode, the application of hardware and software environment, data model of RFID tag, mode of RFID system and related functions verifies the correctness of previous theory research, and increases the feasibility of practice. In a conclusion, this paper uses theory research as base and pratical model as instance, increasing scientificity and feasibility of the research results.
