High-resolution video data compression is the main direction of development of the future video compression technology. It has potential applications in the military and civilian areas. Compared to the traditonal standard-definition video signal,the high-definition video signal has a much larger amount of data. According to this,we need to put forward higher requirements to the compression algorithms and hardware platform.The video compression system designed in this paper,process the UXGA video signal transmitted by the DVI interface. The compression algorithm refers to the international coding standard H.264 which is widely recognized and applied. The processor adopts the DSP—TMS320DM648 which is presented by the TI company. It has powerful DSP core,optimized accelerators and the DaVinci technology which enrich peripherals.On the design of the hardware platform, this system designs the pretreatment circuit with AD9388 and FPGA.With the idea of serial to parallel, this paper focused on using FPGA programming to solve the problem of reducing the extra high point frequency of UXGA video and the conversion from RGB to YUV of the color space. In the case of without affecting the resolution, it reduces the amount of data which needs to be processed by the DSP through the discarding of the color in the process of the conversion. This paper designed the central processing unit with DM648 as the core, completed the interface circuit of the DM648 and DDR2, the configuration circuit of DM648 and the design of the supervision timer circuit. The requirements for the multi-way power which is proposed by DM648 is very different from which is proposed by the precious 6000 series. Therefore, this system considered that factor as a matter when it designed the hardware, the designed power management solutions successfully solved the problem of power-up sequencing and EMI/EMC of DM648.DM648 is based on DaVinci technology background,and its software development tools and software architecture have changed a lot. On the software platform design,firstly, the paper briefly introduced the DaVinci software development tools needed by this development, and builded up the DaVinci software development environment using these tools.Secondly, the proposed compression algorithm of the system successfully transplant the compression algorithm from PC platform to the DSP platform. Finally, in order to meet the requirements of real-time better, the paper optimized the compression program in the altorithm and system level on the DaVinci software platform. In the algorithm level, the paper proposed fast intra prediction, fast search and optimization method to quantify rapid transformation; In the system level, the paper made full use of the davantage of the performance and peripherals of DM648, proposed the solution of Pingpong double buffering, and realised high speed transfer of video data within and without the chip.In the end of this paper, the feasibility and real-time of the high-resolution video compression system was verified by the experiment.
