Thermal infrared detector has advantages of distant detection, strong ability fornight-work and good hidden performance. Images of different infrared wavelengths havestrong complementary, which can be fused to make scene more accurate and reliable,consequently, dual-band image fusion has become hot research spot in infrared imageprocessing field in recent years. Research about dual-band image fusion hardware system hasimportant practical significance in improving real-time fusion and engineering implement.Based on analyzing both domestic and international system's research and developmentstatus, elaborated the base principle of double wave bands image fusion and proposed thedual-band infrared image fusion system design scheme which is based on FPGA and DSP inthis paper. According to the characteristics of Cycloneâ…¢EP3C80 FPGA, function modulecircuit including video image decoding circuit, acquisition module, non-uniform correctionmodule were designed in FPGA and each function module program were programmed withhardware description language while the function of each part was simulated. The fusioncircuit was designed in TMS320 DM642 DSP, including DSP hardware circuit and videocoding circuit, the fusion function program and video encoding chip configuration programwere programmed based on software realization flow chart. Data received and processed byFPGA were transmitted to DSP through video port of the DM642, which simplifies devicecommunication mode.Finally debugged and tested the system, the result shows that this system is feasible andeffective.
