It has been fourteen years since China's first men's magazine Esquire was born in 1997. During the fourteen years, the culture development of China's men's magazine experienced the period of total imitation from 1997 to 1999, localized explosion period from 2000 to 2003, as well as the culture integration period from 2004 to 2007, and after the year of 2008, our country's men's magazine entered into a culture integration new stage with the concept harmony as the highest target. In my opinion, men's magazine market has relatively matured after fourteen year's development. However, men's magazine also faces many difficulties in the process of realistic development, for example, why our country's magazine towards high-end style at the first beginning, why more than half of our country's men's magazines have the background of international copyright cooperation, why the market share of our mainland men's magazine is shrinking, why the content of men's magazine propagation embodies "western centralism", why the image making of our country's man's model rely on the westerner's style, and why most of the men's magazines in China introduce the luxury consumption of western countries, what kind of culture connotation and culture crisis are hidden under the series question's I mentioned above? The thesis aims at the first issue background and the development process of our country's men's magazine, combined with the deep background of Chinese culture as well as the realistic context of current world culture globalization, which conduct a deep level culture reading of the men's magazine on the aspect of reader requirement, market location, editing concept, and content allocation. As a matter of fact, we found that the development of men's magazine faces four culture dilemmas, the first is the materialization tendency of men's magazine value orientation, the second is the option of western's tendency for men's magazine culture, the third is the problem for men's magazine's culture transformation, and the last is the encoding and decoding barrier of men's magazine's culture transmission. As for the special status of man's position in China, China's man has already formed a male culture subconscious of "loft and strong", which means that the meaning of development of China's men's magazine is not only for the industry development, but represent a hint of "sexual anxiety" based on men's image development. Most of our country's local men's magazine hopes to stick to and maintain China's male tradition authority, such as Mangazine, BoyFriend kulala etc, meanwhile, nowadays is an multi-value orientation society, traditional male authority is challenged by feminism, therefore, port of china's men's magazine try to re-write china's culture subconscious, such as Esquire, Man's Health, Metropolis etc to adapt the current tendency. As for the special culture background of China's men's magazine development, I think the breakout of men's magazine's culture must find their way on the aspect of policy, conception, and content. The analysis process of this thesis uses the theory and researching method of journalism and communication, and also, some certain text analysis and content analysis provide relatively perfect science proof for this thesis.
