In recent years, with the great innovation of Web development technology comes a huge surge of information which is accessible to the public. Hence arises the desire of expanding communicative means to the interaction between human and web resources. This could be achieved through recording valuable information for further work, labeling and sharing meaningful information with other users. Those labeled information would be located by accessing to the internet and logging in the system.In view of the actual demand of web page annotation system, through a thorough analysis of its present research and application home and abroad, the thesis makes a intensive study on designing methods and key techniques of web page annotation system, and then provides an constructive solution.The thesis consists of four parts:Firstly, the objective of web page annotation system is put forward on the basis of a survey of its current situation, analyzing with great details the business demands and functional demands and then clarifying the tasks of each module including annotating, highlighting, crossing and noting function modules.Secondly, the thesis offers a detailed discussion on the realization of some key techniques:storing markup content in a database by Ajax asynchronous transfer; selecting document tags in web pages and highlighting information accurately; employing plugs-in techniques, based on Firefox browser, to complete the client-side tools of the web page annotation system.Thirdly, the thesis presents a full and accurate design of both server-side and client-side of the web page annotation system, constructing a general model with an overall scheme. What's more, foregrounding, backgrounding functional modules and a system database are developed to enhance the performance of storage and query.Lastly, the main functions of client-side tools (also could be called plugs-in) are achieved with a combination of Java, JavaScipt and MySQL, with a reference to a set of strategies and solutions listed accordingly.As is suggested by its practical operation, the scheme proposed by this thesis is a success in annotating, crossing, highlighting and noting the web pages, thus effectively processing the labeled information through background work.
