Virtual plant plays an important role for reality of virtual enviroment.Plant leaves have various shapes, take the mostly area of the whole plant, and form plenty of shadow effect under lighting,so the reality of leaf became one of the criteria for judging the wether the virtual enviroment realistic. In this paper, we present a method of realistic leaf modeling based on the leaf image and botanical theory. In this method, we extract the leaf outline by using the marching square algorithm. Generate vein as leave's skeleton with modified diffusion limited aggregation (DLA) model and the botanical theory that leaf veins growth related with auxin and leaf blade shape automatically. The leaf was uniformly triangulated by using the optimization algorism of Delaunay mesh. Finally, using the leaf vein node as the control point, deform the 2D leaf mesh by using finite volume method (FVM) with Laplace interpolation to simulate the curved leaf blade, and use the iterated function system based on fractal theory to simulate the phyllotaxy. Our method can get a uniform triangulated mesh leaf model automatically and based botanical theory. The method of this paper highlights the combination of botanical theory for leave's skeleton generation and the importance of leaf vein for triangulation and deformation.
