Since the industrial revolution, CO2 concentration in global atmospheric has a rapid rise, and the greenhouse effect by the increased concentrations of CO2, CH4 and other greenhouse gases have been confirmed as the main cause for global warming by most scientists.Climate summit in Copenhagen in 2009 has shown the generally recognition for the global climate change caused by greenhouse gas emissions. The Chinese government has announced before the summit that the emissions of CO2 per unit of GDP would dropped 40%~45%in 2020 than in 2005. As an important strategic resource for sustainable development in Shanghai, "Chongming Three Islands Plan" has clarified the developing position for ecological island. In November 2009, "developing green economy pilot project of Chongming ecological island" has been an important issue in the "Consultation Conference of Science & Technology Department and Shanghai Municipal People's Government in 2009", which means that Chongming can vigorously promote the eco-island construction relying on Shanghai's advantages, meanwhile, take the opportunity of establishing National Sustainable Development Experimental Zone, to be innovative in the development of low carbon agriculture, low carbon communities and low-carbon industries, and make contribution to the adjustment of Shanghai's industrial structure and to the carbon sinks, furthermore, Chongming will become a model of low-carbon economy both in the country and the world.In the background of Chongming ecological construction, this article has analyzed and summarized the previous research.Using the existing data of carbon flux monitoring station for Chongming wetland ecosystem and the MODIS remote sensing data, combined with GIS, database and software engineering technology, this article has established Chongming wetland carbon source monitoring database, model database of carbon source/sink and thematic image database based on the automatic interpretation of remote sensing image. And on these bases, this article has realized the coding and develop of "Carbon Process-Regional Remote Sensing Coupling Model", and has achieved grid computing for regional wetland carbon fixed and carbon storage. All of these have provided data and technical support for long-term calculation and evaluation of Chongming wetland ecosystem carbon sequestration, release and storage, and further provided the necessary knowledge, technology and data reservior for national and Shanghai City about carbon sinks/emissions. In this paper, the main results are as follows:Firstly, based on the database technology and Chongming on-site measured carbon sinks data, as well as the existing research, Chongming online monitoring database of carbon sources/sinks was designed and implemented. Based on the combination of remote sensing technology and software engineering technology, as well as the MODIS remote sensing data, Chongming thematic database of remote sensing image was established, on the other hand, combining the model database technology and GIS technology, based on object-oriented, Chongming wetland carbon sources/sinks estimation model library was initially constructed, which is aiming at remote sensing driving. Finally, management system based on these databases has developed, and realized the information, visualization and integrated management for Chongming carbon source/sink data and results, as well as the management functions for models.Secondly, using RS and GIS integration development technology,.NET platform and C# language, based on carbon sources/sinks database, remote sensing thematic database and model libraries database, Chongming wetland carbon sources/sinks monitoring and management system was established. The system has realized the integration of RS and GIS, which is using RS module to preprocess and parameter automatically invert the remote sensing data, using model library database technology to estimate carbon sources/sinks, and using GIS technology to visualize the results. At the early stage of remote sensing data processing, we adopted the IDL's advantages in high speed visual display and image processing to enable users to see significant changes. At the later stage of model analysis results, statistics and thematic maps display can be realized by the overlay of vector layer using ArcEngine.At last, based on the previous work, taking the main function module in the system for example, the application analysis and assessment was given. The result shows that the system can support for the carbon source and sink estimation.
