Public debate show has proved to be an excellent platform for the exchange of ideas for the general public. This paper attempts an analysis on the host's discourse with special reference of a famous public show aired on Phoenix "the tiger talk". The analysis is based on transcribed texts from video-taped data. Assuming a broadly conversational theoretic viewpoint, the analysis forces on both the generality and the particularity of the discourse to be analyzed. The method of study includes description, elucidation and critical analysis. The generality of the discourse is generally revealed by the overall discourse structure and constituent structure, with the latter being the focus of the analysis. Constituent structure includes the turn-taking in the conversation, ask-and-answer pattern, adjustment and feedback mechanisms. According to our analysis, with respect to turn-taking, the host mostly assumes the roles of initiating new conversational turns and issuing a transition between different turns, and seldom assumes the turn-holding strategy. The hosts also resorts mostly to independent adjacency pair. Moreover, the hosts usually adjust himself after the first turn, but correct the guests after the second turn. With respect to feedback, the host usually uses non-intrusive answers such as 'yeah...' for feedback so that the guest's turn is not disrupted. The particularity of the discourse analysis investigates the particular pattern of the host's speech, with special reference to the difference between public debate shows and other types of talk shows. The analysis focuses on the transition function of turn-taking and disruption pattern when overlap occurs. We have discovered that double turn-taking is a new pattern in this kind of discourse. Participation in double turn-taking enables the host to improve the relevance of the topic and the management of time. In addition, disrupting the guests' turns from time to time enables the host to maintain the order and ensure the smooth progress of the programme.
