As the technology developing rapidly, the dependence on internet service has been growing, meanwhile, the demand for high availability has been grown as well. As the best choice for improving high availability, the routers of running Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol works as a virtual gateway equipment with a virtual IP address. When one of these routers which have problems would not break off the communication, the problem with a single point failure in gateway has been solved.Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol could offer the solution for the problem of a single point failure under Configuring the default routers. However, only one of the equipments is allowed to forward the data while the others are in charge of backing up, which is a great waste of internet resource. This paper offers a scheme that can achieve both the function of standby redundancy and Load Balancing based on the research of Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol, in order to improve the utilization rate of resource.This article dissertation focus on some points as follows:Through researching the technology of Cisco HRSP and GLBP, it is suggested to achieve the function of Load Balancing: the VRRP group offers a virtual IP address with multiple MAC address, and each equipment of this group gets a virtual MAC address and generates a virtual forwarding according the virtual MAC address. In that case the flow can work through the Packet forwarding device for the communication, so that the inside stream could been forwarded through every equipment of this group.Through researching the Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol, the article analyzes the principles of Load Balancing and suggests to add Option Field after the original VRRP Packets to increase the type of Protocol packets; according to how VRRP work, the article suggests to add timer and virtual forwarding state machine. when two state machine cooperated, the standby redundancy function in this virtual forwarding instance has been achieved.Through researching The load balancing algorithm, this article suggests a Load balancing scheduling policy s based on Virtual MAC Address,so that it could carry out this function more efficient.Based on the thoughts above, the article finishes the requirement analysis of the system following the standard software engineering process and gives system detail design of each function components and implements the system.
