To adapt to the sharp increase of mobile users and new service requirements, and to meet the demand of more high speed services and multimedia services, the 3G appeared, with the characters of high service quality, high spectrum efficiency and strong ability to multi-service environment and so on.The trend of the 3 G network is to realize the transmission mechanism based on IP and develop IP multimedia services. This kind of new and opened 3G network structure can make network operators get new profits rapidly by the services and applications based on IP. But it also poses new challeges to network operators, the most important of which is how to provide higher QoS to meet the ever-increasing service demands and provide different services for different kinds of users. The architecture of 3G network mainly consists of radio access network and core network, but establishing a strong and high-efficiency core network will make mostly for driving to provide value-added services and extra functions in 3G network. Therefore, it is significant to rearch on QoS in the 3G core network. The design scheme is proposed based on these demands.Firstly, the IP QoS mechanism is summarized, and the network structure and end-to-end QoS mechanism of the WCDMA technology representing 3 GPP are introduced. After the advantages of MPLS technology in resolving WCDMA core network QoS is analyzed, this paper in detail expondes the principle and core technologies of MPLS. The working principle and mechanism of MPLS TE as an indirect means of supporting QoS are studied. The advantages of combining MPLS and DiffServ in providing QoS are discussed. To reslove the key issue of combination, two solutions of QoS guarantee are proposed.Secondly, based on the theoretical system of MPLS, TE, DiffServ and the QoS characteristics of 3G business, this paper puts forward the MPLS-DiffServ architecture in WCDMA core network to achieve QoS; it proposes the system model on the basis of the MPLS-DiffServ architecture, and describes the interaction between internal modules of the system model and the process of forwarding packet; it focuses on the implementation of QoS mapping mechanism between the DiffServ model and the MPLS module, and extends the LDP protocol to support DiffServ; it does detailed design on the system realization of MPLS TE.Finally, based on the software development platform of a communication company in Hangzhou, grouping network is done by taking use of routing equipments to test QoS of WCDMA core network based on MPLS. According to testing the packet loss rate and time-delay of different kinds of QoS services, it is proved that the technical scheme gradely improves the QoS performance of WCDMA core network and it is feasible and effective.The design scheme put forword by this paper is that MPLS is the transmission mechanism of WCDMA core network and MPLS-DiffServ mechanism and MPLS TE are carried out, which doesn't only solve the non-QoS connection problem of IP, but also makes the network provide different services for different users. Besides, it can reasonably balance the traffic distribution in the network. Therefore, it effectively improves the QoS performance of WCDMA core network. Meanwhile, the scheme is easy to implement and scalable.
