Great changes have taken place on wireless telecommunications, various concepts and technologies emerge, which brings improvement on both the capacity and reliability of wireless communication system. As one of them, MIMO technology achieves spatial diversity by installing multiple antennas on both the source node and destination node. Compared to traditional single input single output system, MIMO technology can increase the capacity of telecommunication system by taking advantage the multiplexing gain, and also can strengthen the reliability of the system by utilizing the diversity gain. But due to space constraint between multiple antennas and increasing complexity of receiver and so on, MIMO still has a long way to go. Cooperative relay system, which can enjoy the similar advantage as MIMO technology, can get rid of the constraint on physical size of end equipment; it can mimic the MIMO technology by share the antenna of each other.Research on the combination of MIMO and cooperative relay system has become a hot spot, this paper focuses on the transmit antenna selection of the MIMO relay system, based on the optimal transmit antenna selection strategy and two sub-optimal transmit antenna strategies, a new sub-optimal transmit antenna strategy is proposed under the amplify-and-forward situation, this strategy can achieve same diversity as the optimal strategy, but has a relatively low complexity and small loss on system performance, the mutual information, outage probability and diversity order of the above four schemes have been concluded and a numerical simulation of the outage probability has been done to prove the theory, it is shown that our scheme can achieve a better tradeoff between the system performance and complexity.
