Cooperative diversity is a new kind of space diversity, two or more mobileterminals with single antenna relay information for each other, thus, virtual antennaarray is formed, and transmitting diversity is achieved. Various results show thatcooperative diversity can increase the capacity of communication system, higher thedata rate, combat fading effectively, lower the outage probability of service, andincreasetheQualityofServiceandreliability. To applythe cooperative diversityin practical wireless communication, a studyoncooperative diversity protocols and the relay selection schemes used in these protocolsis made. The main results obtained and contents of this thesis are as follows: Anintroduction to the fundamental principle of space diversity and cooperative diversity; The current development and compare of cooperative diversity protocols; The currentdevelopment and compare of relay selection schemes used in cooperative diversityprotocols; Based on Opportunistic Relaying, a new relay selection scheme -- SDTRS(Source Dominant Timing Relay Selection) is proposed. Theoretic and simulationanalyses show that, SDTRS has smaller collision probability than OpportunisticRelaying, and has the advantage of rapid selection, meanwhile, SDTRS solves theproblemthatthesourcekeepwaitingwhentherelayselectionisfailed.
