As a natural phenomenon, lightning has a great impact to human's lives and production. Lightning monitor and location technology, which is an important part of lightning protection technology, mainly detect lightning discharge parameters and location of lightning. It is very useful in lightning protection, lightning forecasting and early-warning. So it is a new technology that urgently needs to be developed.This paper briefly introduces the overall design of multi-station lightning location system first, and then accomplishes the partly function of the system, including GPS decoding, frequency calibration and data transmission which includes USB and network transmission. Optimizes the system performance, including the optimization of serial driver and network driver and the implementation of kalman filter. Tests the system, including the single module and overall system and provides the relevant technical factors. Based on the multi-station lightning location system, this paper provides the design of single-station lightning location system, including the selection of hardware platform and the design of data stream. This paper also studies the theory of lightning location, including the lightning hit-back predication and the direction and distance of the lightning. Finally, accomplishes some relevant logic modules on X3-10M.The design difficulties firstly rests on choosing the optimal implementation scheme, also on the optimization of task scheduling, execution time and hardware drivers based on limited system resources. The second design difficulty rests on the selection of hardware platform and the design of data stream based on the theory of single-station lightning location.
