As one of the key branches of intelligent control technology, embedded system is widely applied to fields such as communication, transportation, scientific study, medical treatment, etc, and never slows down its pace in expanding its application prospect into every corner. Embedded system experiment course is considered as a critical part of computer science education. Study and research outcome majored in computer science is greatly affected by the level the embedded system experiments could achieve and whether such experiments could match the theory studied from classes. However, due to its high-level requirements in software/hardware costs, educational platform intelligence and scalabilities, traditional embedded system experiment platform suffers from great limitations in improving students' innovation capability, scientific performance evaluation, and reducing experimental platform construction costs. With the rapid development in computer, network and multimedia technologies, teaching/learning based on Internet is gradually becoming an effective complement to traditional educational patterns. As one important composition, virtual experiment system could help realize the on-line educational process and management by linking the local students and teachers to remote virtual labs via Internet, and creating an open virtual "space" shared by those participants, where students and teachers could operates freely according to their own demands.Deriving from the fact that it could easily get over the problems confronted by the traditional patterns, virtual experiment educational mode tends to be the working target of most of domestic universities' remote education. Due to its critical role among all the compositions, embedded simulation kernel makes an important contribution to the efficiency and performance of the entire platform. According to our in-depth study of embedded system architecture and working principles, this paper proposes an embedded kernel simulation system model (DOI) with the consideration of computer simulation theory. Furthermore, an embedded 8051 simulated kernel is designed and developed based on this model, which could load, compile and link the C language source file written by the user, simulate the working process of 8051 and execute user's logic, and then outputs the results through interfaces. This paper has two major contributions. First, the proposed embedded kernel simulation system model (DOI) successfully proves the feasibility of the construction of our on-line embedded system experiment and management platform, providing a theoretical guaranty of the development of embedded kernel simulation system. Secondly, this project formulates its framework with plug-in and multi-thread design patterns, and improves the whole scalability, which could meet the comprehensive requirements from on-line embedded system experiment and management platform both nowadays and in the future.
