With the rapid development of sensor technology, embedded devices and wireless RF technology, the cheap and low-power wireless sensor nodes become more and more popular, wireless sensor networks technology can be used for military, medical, agriculture, transportation, environmental monitoring and many other fields, and it is another great revolution in information technology after the internet technology. The research of localization method of three-dimensional wireless sensor networks, especially the research of high-precision, low power, low cost localization method will solve many real-life problems, and significantly improve people's living standards.The research content of this thesis came from the 2009 Important national science & technology specific projects (No.2009ZX03006-007). In this thesis, some research on 3D wireless sensor networks had been done:firstly, an anchor node selection strategy based on triangle inequality was proposed to improve the localization performance, it can be used in the scene where few anchor nodes were severely disrupted, and it can significantly improve the localization accuracy. Then a 3D WSN localization method based on particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is presented, the MSE between estimated distance and measured distance was used as the optimization objective function, the ideas of adaptive weighting and natural selection were introduced into the PSO algorithm. This method could balance the global and the local search ability, and the convergence speed of this method is high. The theoretical analysis and simulation results show that this method has great localization accuracy. The anchor node selection strategy based on triangle inequality was used in the improved PSO localization algorithm, the system could obtain a good accuracy while the system also had certain anti-interference ability.The first two chapters mainly talked about the existing technologies of wireless sensor networks, then described and analyzed the performance and implementation of the existing location technology of wireless sensor networks. The next major research direction were based on the Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) ranging technology, then discussed the triangle inequality-based anchor node selection strategy and describe the realization process and performance of the algorithm. In the chapter 4, it discussed a wireless sensor networks localization algorithm based on the improved PSO with the anchor node selection strategy, analyzed the performance of the algorithm in two different scenarios. Finally, the complexity of algorithm and the reason of localization error were analyzed simply.
