Research On The Design Method Of User Interface For Web Information System

User interface is the interface transferring information between users and information systems. It's a final visualization of information architecture and application structure for the system. User interface is the integral part of information navigation, so it plays an important role in providing information for users. With the development of Web technologies, there are more and more new characteristics and requirements on the design of user interface for Web information system.The design and development of interface for traditional desktop software often focuses on the presentation model of user interface without taking into account the Web characteristics. The design method of web navigation based on navigation model can't effectively give consideration to both navigation structure (interface static properties) and navigation behavior (interface dynamic properties). Its insufficiency in supporting for navigation patterns and the low level of description result in this method lacks adaptability, flexibility and maintainability. Meanwhile, it's difficult to achieve engineering and automatic development of user interface due to lacking of theories and technologies on consistency checks and mapping transformations of models. Therefore, the presentation model must be combined with navigation model to complete the design and development of Web user interface.This thesis introduces a method called Just-UI which is more in line with the design concept of user interface. The thesis describes related theories and technologies, including presentation model, the conceptual pattern set of interface for Just-UI, the meta-model of Just-UI and automatic code generation theory of interface. By analyzing advantages and disadvantages of Just-UI method, we introduce a new method called SC-Just-UI, which is based on the extended statecharts and is an improvement on Just-UI method. It introduces an abstract pattern of page and designs corresponding meta-model according to the meta-model theory of Just-UI. The theory based on extended statecharts provides formal description for SC-Just-UI diagram. Then the modeling method of SC-Just-UI was illustrated by instances, to analyze how this method presents various Web characteristics, such as internal-page links, inter-page links and frames. In the end of this thesis, the details to be grasped during the generation of user interface based on SC-Just-UI were dicussed.Studies have shown that the SC-Just-UI method can effectively combine presentation model with navigation model. According to this method, user interface of web information system can be modeled by page as a big granularity modeling element to enhance the adaptability, flexibility and maintainability of interface design. Meanwhile, SC-Just-UI model works effectively during the development of system. The examples have shown that to a certain extent, the design and development method of user interface based on SC-Just-UI has improved the efficiency and quality of interface development. Meanwhile, it has some theoretical and practical significance on model driven development.
