It is a critical active device in fibre communication system.Erbium Doped Fibre Amplifier (EDFA) is the represent of rare earth element doping optical amplifier. It is widely used because of its high gain, high pumping efficiency, low cross-talk, insensitive polarization and the working region in the lowest fibre loss wavelength. In Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) and Dense Wave Length Division Multiplexing (DWDM), a power change in one channel in Optical fibre amplifier lead to the power change in other channels, which is called transient response in Optical fibre amplifier. Its transient response is detrimental to stability in the system. This article introduced the fundamental principles and the transient response of EDFA, a 980nm pumping source was manufactured including some circuit designs, tests of pumping source performance and characteristics analysis. A EDFA system was built and its performance was tested. The transient response was experimental analysed. This experiment is aim to enhance the system performance and stability of optical communication system. | Keywords/Search Tags: | EDFA, transient response, noise figure, gain, gain spectrum | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
