It is August 2009 that Sina.com, the biggest portal in China, released its Sina microblog for internal test and then became the first portal with twitter service. Twitter keeps remarkable performance in many news and public events because its instantaneity and popularity. Nowadays there are countless domestic researches on twitter using various methods which mostly focus on single issue but still lacking complete elaboration about its development, marketing and effect of communication.Firstly this paper looks back on the origin of twitter, including the development of earliest microblog and the growth of Sina microblog in China. On this basis an analysis on the technical foundation and the marketing model is made. DIY theory has been raised to explain the characters and the advantages of twitter in contrary with other traditional media. Further more classic events and famous figures in microblog of contemporary China are used to analyze some principles and restrictions of twitter. The last but not the least some outlooks about the values of twitter's development and the way to utilize it has been proposed.
