The Implementation And Performance Test Of Server Network Prototype System Based On InfiniBand

Along with the development of Internet and Server technology, CPU's processing power, Memory's arithmetic speed and volume have reached an all-time high. Microelectronic manufacture is in the age of 0.1um copper technology, which makes the more microer CPU and larger capacity of Memory come true. "Processor Power will double every 18 months" [Gordon Moore,1965], in the past 20 years, microprocessor is growing as Moore's Law, RISC chip's processing power is increasing by the speed of 20% to 30%. At the same time, how to eliminate performance bottlenecks, optimize network's topological structure and improve the network management strategy are becoming the hot topics. As the newest I/O technology, InfiniBand (IB) can simplify and promote the link speed among server nodes, in addition, it can easily connect to other isomerous systems, such as Ethernet, Fab channel and so on. IBA (InfiniBand Architecture) changes the traditional server centred topology and realize the network centred topology, which has many excellent features, including high bandwidth, low latency, LPOH, scalability and unified interface. InfiniBand is an open, unified and worldwide used standard, it will becoming the leader in server cluster solutions.The thesis analyses the Traditional Server Network, which is server centred, its communication bottleneck lies in OS involved in data transmission, and the isolated special network increases the cost of construction and maintainance. In order to cope with insufficient in Traditional Server Network, the Bear Net, a server network prototype system based on InfiniBand, is designed and implemented in this thesis, and Bear Net's mechanism of management and communication is also expounded particularly. The Bear Net is made up with IB devices and OFED software stack from Mellanox, which can provide Storage, HPC and Web App services. In the end, efficient test tools (Orion, Intel(?) Optimized MP UNPACK Benchmark and IOmeter) are used to implement the performance tests specially designed for each application scenario, and as a comparison, the same tests also run on 10Gb Ethernet Network. According to the test results, InfinBand's outstanding performance is well proved.
