IP is the network layer protocol of TCP/IP protocol family. IPv4 (Internet Protocol Version 4) is the most widely used network layer protocol, but also exposed many shortcomings in use. IPv6 (Internet Protocol Version 6) is the next-generation IP Protocol designed, by IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force), to replace IPv4. Most prominent feature of IPv6 is its 128-bit address length, almost no restrictions to offer network address. It also has structured routing and convenient network management, and increases the security, service quality and high mobility support. IPv6 replace IPv4 is an inevitable trend.Broadband Access Technology represented by PON access technology also in the evolution of IPv6. Telecom operators had explicitly requested PON equipment support IPv6. Some main equipment manufacturers have been proposed IPv6 access solutions. IPv6 protocol stack design & development in embedded system on PON equipment has important significance and application value.The major work of this paper is listed as follows:First, IPv6 protocol core content is analyzed, such as address architecture, packet format data analysis, ICMPv6 protocol, ND protocol and IPv6 transition strategy.Second, Linux kernel IPv6 protocol stack open source is analyzed, key data structures and functions are grasped.Third, IPv6 protocol stack transplant requirements analysis is completed according to the actual hardware and software environment. IPv6 protocol stack transplant overall design scheme based on an OLT equipment is completed, including function module divides, module interface design, etc. Forth, routing module detailed design is completed. PON embedded system development environment is built, Linux kernel IPv6 protocol stack code is modified on GWD VOS software platform which is based on VxWorks, IPv6 protocol stack routing module is realized, and compiler is passed.
