As a peer-to-peer network, the outstanding features of Ad Hoc network is self-organized, no center and multi-hop. Free of the infrastructures Ad Hoc network can realise communicating quickly, so it can be applicated in fire fighting, earthquake and others disasters. Due to no controlling center and self-organized feature, Ad Hoc network is very robust and can play an important role in military. Now there are plenty of theoretical research findings, on the contrary less practical application. The main reason is that the theoretical findings cannot describe the practical application accurately. The goal of this paper is to design an Ad Hoc network platform, including hardware and software, based on the existing achievement, then find practical problem and find solution in theory and practice, finally construct a practical Ad Hoc network.Based on embedded technology, this paper has completed the transplantation of system boot programmer, kernel of Linux, file system, driver of wireless card and routing protocol to construct a complete software system, also has developed a hardware platform centering on S3c2410 and finished the joint test. It is verified that the platform can work as an Ad Hoc network node with the feature of mobility, portability and so on. After that, constructing an Ad Hoc network with these platforms to give a functionality test, then many testing data can be recorded through the process. Analysing the problems from the records, an improved method of Dynamic Source Routing Protocol is put forward; also the feasibility is proved on theory and in practical experiment. There are also research about driver design of wireless card, concerning about serials of 802.11 protocols, introduction about the power control module and a measurement to control the transmitting power. Last but not least, this paper describes Ad Hoc network how to access Internet, and gives a practical demonstration.
