As a type of short distance communication technology, WLAN has been playing an important role in the area of architectural signal coverage, wireless city construction and so on. At the same time, the pace of development in the area of network programming aided design is slower than that in the area of network construction, which has greatly limited the efficiency and quality of network construction. In order to improve the designing efficiency in network programming, an advanced WLAN network programming simulation platform is necessary, which will not only fulfill the network construction's requirement, but also comply with national initiative of proprietary innovation. Meanwhile, as a result of excellent navigation performance and interaction advantage, GIS have been extensively used in the various areas, such as industry and agriculture. The combination of GIS and network programming simulation software is the trend.In this paper, GIS, especially the application development strategy is introduced firstly. Then the WLAN related standards is shortly described. Next, the significance, process, domestic and overseas developments about WLAN network programming are elaborated. In addition, the coverage programming, the frequency programming and the capacity programming are also detailed. As this subject's main content, from chapter 5th, the detailed design processes, including hotspots management sub-module, network programming sub-module, such as interface design, function design and the key technology, are highlighted. Then from the prospective of software engineering subject, the simulation software is analyzed again. As an application example, in chapter 6th, for a real wireless environment, a simulation based on the software platform is implemented. In this simulation, a comparison between simulation result and test result is conducted. Results show that software simulation results are probably equal to the actual test results. Statistics method shows that the difference between the simulation results and the test results is normally distributed. Statistics result shows that WLAN network programming simulation software is reliable. At last, in addition, the simulation error factors are analyzed.
