Random Access is a key technology in Media Access Control(MAC) of communication system. Its performance is directly related to the good or bad of the system performance. In order to meet of the special demand of the LTE system capacity and delay, Random Access has become one important study of the LTE system. The research of Random Access procedure in LTE focused on how to resolve the collision and reduce the access delay.In this paper, summary of multiple access technology, Conflict resolution algorithm for random access and RACH in WCDMA system schemes are given to achieve a better understanding about RACH in LTE. This dissertation mainly focuses on the theory and design of Random Access in LTE. This paper analyzes several random access technology of LTE system, and studies the function, classification and processes of random access of LTE system. Meanwhile, the paper studies the characteristics and modeling of M2M business, and focus on the LTE random access procedure of M2M business.In this paper, we build a simulation platform of LTE system and WCDMA system. On this platform, we simulate the collision probability of random access, the average random access delay, the failure probability of random access, failure probability of the session of M2M business, and the influence of M2M business to random access of H2H business. Through analyzing a series of simulation results, we find the influence of M2M business to random access of H2H business is very significant. Compared with the LTE system, we simulate the random access of WCDMA system, and discuss the improvement program of random access of LTE system for M2M business.
