3GPP started the Long Term Evolution of the Universal Mobile Telecommunication System technology from 2004. Error correction coding is one of the key technologies of the LTE system. Different coding schemes are applied on different channel. BCH and most control information use tail biting convolutional coding, data information uses Turbo coding and the channel control information uses Reed-Muller coding. In this thesis the above three coding schemes are analyzed for the encoding structures and the decoding performance. HARQ technology is also discussed. And the implementation of the modules is given.On the coding, this thesis discusses the coding scheme of the above three codes in LTE system. About the decoding, for RM code, this thesis studies the correlation between the coding table of in LTE system and TD-SCDMA system, introduces the Fast Hadamard Transform to reduce the delay of the decoding and gives the process of decoding steps. For Tail Biting code, this thesis discusses three popular decoding algorithms including the Circular Viterbi Algorithm(CVA), the Wrap-Around Viterbi Algorithm(WAVA) and the Bidirectional Viterbi Algorithm (BVA), and gives the analysis between the algorithms. For Turbo code, by computer simulation, this thesis studies the parameters which affect the decoding performance. Then, the thesis discusses four decoding algorithms and studies the performance of Log-MAP algorithm and Max-Log-MAP algorithm by computer simulation. Besides, this thesis discussed the HARQ scheme in LTE system and the definition of the Redundancy Version, and studies the performance of the Chase combine and IR combine.Finally, based on the platform of picoChip, this thesis gives the design and implementation of RM decoding, Turbo decoding and HARQ. The above modules have passed the system test of LTE physical channel, it's a good reference of the implementation of LTE system.
