The IC tag of RFID system consists of tag antenna and tag chip. The goal of the tag antenna is to transfer maximum energy through and out of tag chip, which requires good matching between tag antenna and tag chip. In RFID applications, the value of the chip impedance can be arbitrary, so it is a key point that how to realize the QUICK SIZING of tag antenna to achieve the matching goal in a wide range covered by chip impedance. Usually, we take the electromagnetic simulators (EM) to implement the optimization of tag antenna, but it is very time consuming, which would extremely reduce the efficiency in optimization procedure.My research here is the optimization of RFID tag antenna, and also a effective method for RFID tag antenna optimization based on evolutionary algorithms combined with artificial neural network and a optimization software platform based on this method are approached in this paper. First, a non-linear model of a tag antenna is established by using artificial neural network and the fitness function of evolutionary algorithms is constructed from tag antenna's artificial neural network. Second, implement the genetic algorithm (GA) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) optimizers by using C/C++ language to optimize the key dimensions of tag antenna and implement the method with software platform. In this paper, an inductance coupling dipole antenna was designed as an example to evaluate the optimization method. The results show that this method and EM optimization can achieve the same goal, but it is much more efficient that EM optimization in speed, which means that the software platform can greatly improve the efficiency of production cycle if repeated fine-tuning of the antenna is needed.
