Ultra-wideband(UWB) communications technology has developed for more than 100 years, as early as 1901 Marcoin used spark discharge to generate the UWB signal. But unfortunately, after a long period of time, due to the lack of device and algorithm, the development of UWB communication technology almost at a standstill, and until the 1960 s, the UWB communication technologies are highly classified military technology. In 2002, however, the federal communications commission allowed private use of UWB technology, and the spectrum reuse ability of UWB antenna, high transmission rate, low system complexity, strong ability to resist multipath transmission, started the business and academic research on UWB communication technology.Swarm intelligence optimization algorithm is an important branch of computational intelligence. This algorithm is inspired by nature from the organizational behavior of biological systems, from the group of information interaction to complete optimization, widely used in machine learning, workshop scheduling and economic forecasts, and other fields. In recent years, with the development of artificial intelligence, emerged a large number of new swarm intelligence algorithm, such as: Genetic Algorithm, Particle Swarm Optimization, Ant Colony Algorithm, Immune Algorithm, Bacterial Foraging Algorithm and so on.Among them, because of the particle swarm optimization algorithm’s simple concept, there are a few parameter settings and search efficiency, and for much appreciation by many scholars, there appeared many kinds of improved algorithm, such as: discrete particle swarm optimization algorithm, niche particle swarm optimization algorithm and hybrid particle swarm optimization algorithm and so on.And widely used in engineering design optimization, power system, robot control, transportation and so on.The American Ansoft HFSS is a high frequency electromagnetic simulation software, the software of finite element method, powerful functions, the results are accurate, is recognized as the industry of space electromagnetic field design and analysis of the industry standard. HFSS software is a powerful performance analysis and post-processing ability, able to provide a full range of antenna and antenna array simulation analysis and optimization design, the various properties of the antenna, such as: gain, internal electromagnetic field distribution, voltage standing wave ratio and so on, can accurate simulation.In this thesis, using particle swarm optimization algorithm optimize the UWB antenna, and comparing the optimization results with HFSS software, UWB antenna selection coaxial feed rectangular microstrip antenna and coaxial feed double frequency microstrip antenna. The study adopts the method of comparative analysis, using HFSS software is optimized first, then use particle swarm optimization algorithm to optimize the index. The results show that the particle swarm optimization algorithm has a comparative advantage.
