Palm vein recognition is a new project in the biometric field. The high quality palm vein image acquisition is the difficulty in palm vein pattern recognition. What's more, the quality of palm vein image is crucial to the palm vein extraction and the recognition rate.In the paper, the Near-IR LED array is introduced to acquire the palm vein images. According to the research on the shine laws of the Near-IR LED and arrange the distance of LED properly, a new LED array structure is proposed. It can get the uniform illumination and meet the requirements of the non-contacting palm vein acquisition. A camera with the OV5116 sensor is selected for the palm vein acquisition. An optical infrared filter was mounted in front of the camera's lens, which can cut off wavelength below 760nm.A total of 2500 palm vein images are acquired under the Near-IR lighting source of 760nm,850nm,890nm,960nm and the combination of every two of them. The paper takes the ratio of the average gray-scale value of palm vein areas and other areas in the region of interest (ROI) as the criterion of the wavelength choice. According to it, palm vein image acquisition under the combination of 760nm and 960nm NIR is adopted at last. It can overcome the difficulty of the palm vein acquisition whose palm fat is relative thick. In the paper, a palm vein recognition system based on TM320DM6437 is designed. After the reset of the brightness and contrast registers in the TVP5146 video decoder respectively, the system acquires palm vein image and high contract image continuous. The high contract image is used to locating the palm. The system can perform the recognition work in 1s without the computer. Meanwhile, it will present the result in the monitor.
