The paper presents the channel estimation techniques based on the IEEE 802.16e protocol chiefly. IEEE 802.16e adopts Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) technology and Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) technology. Channel estimation is the key technology of MIMO-OFDM system, and its accuracy greatly influences the system performance. The paper firstly analyzes the performance of some traditional channel estimation algorithm in IEEE 802.16e system based on the study of mobile fading channel, and makes comparisons according to the simulation results. IEEE 802.16e has fewer pilots when it adopts virtual MIMO technology (Virtual MIMO). The paper designs a more suitable channel estimation method based on IEEE 802.16e. The method firstly applies improved linear minimum mean square error (LMMSE) algorithm as parameter estimation method to get the pilot channel values, and then uses upsampling interpolation in time domain to get the subcarrier channel values, and fits them on time-frequency plane to get all the channel values. The simulation results show the superiority of my method over the traditional method.
