As the main post-3G network technology, the convergence of Heterogeneous Wireless Networks can provide multimedia services with integrated voices, data and images, meets the users'increasing needs on personalization, diversification and mobility. It has become the research focus of business and academia community. In the convergence process of heterogeneous wireless networks, safety is the firstly important thing to be considered. So, analyzing and designing a safe and efficient access authentication protocol and key agreement protocol have important theoretical and practical significance.Firstly, in this thesis, to show the design ideas of certificate-based and identity-based authentication schemes, the advantages and disadvantages of several types of Public Key authentication algorithm are comparatively studied. Secondly, the security flaws of several traditional networks and 3G-WLAN network access authentication protocol are analyzed. Based on the M. Girault'self-certified public key, an authentication algorithm is proposed. It could satisfy the security, storage and computing performance requirement in most applications. Thirdly, another identity-based self-certified secure access authentication protocol for heterogeneous wireless network is proposed. Besides the anonymity, this newly proposed mutual authentication can prevent the network from impersonating users, achieve higher security, and has small amount of on-line computation, with low requirement on storage overhead. By comparisons, it is shown that the safety and efficacy of the protocol can meet the demands of most heterogeneous wireless network environment applications.
