"Two-sided": The Self-present In Vitual Community

Virtual community as the medium of communication used by Chinese netizens,which is becoming more and more popular and mature.The space constructed by the multi-media technologies which supply various kinds of virtual indentities.The netizens can choose one kind or even several kinds of virtual indentities as the symbols of themselves.And there aren't any negative effects brought by what they have done on the internet.The netizens have more freedoms while they are role-playing on the internet.For example, in the real world,they couldn't choose their family backgrounds,sexes and their appearances,but on the net,all of those could be chosen at their wills. On the one hand,the netizens are in privacy,on the other hand,they could creat a totally different personality which is different from the personality of the real world.And also,by role-playing and communicaitng interactively with other netizens,they could show a different image of themselves.In this way,actually the netizens live in another world which is different from the real world,and they also behave the way differently.Comparing with the traditional ways of communication,the coming of the network era brings a news communication pattern.Thus,the problems of self-exsitances,self-expressions and indentities of virtual self online are all needed to be discussed thoroughly.There was a hot topic posted in 2009,which was about one woman who is the wife of one regimental commander.The woman slipped the announcer in the face while she was visiting the Dunhuang mogao grottoes, because the 19-year-old commander stopped her from touching the mural paintings.By analysing this individual case qualitatively and quantitatively,we could learn the essential features of the netizens. We could find through out the case that netizens could be justice passers-by,or they could just be onlookers or the violent netizens who talk and and behaves in rather rude and offensive ways. Specifically,the analysis could be divided into three parts.The first part is about the case it self.Thus,the thesis firstly gives a clearly description of the case.On the internet, we communicate through the words in written forms.These words are subjectively and controllablely.Thus,secondly,the thesis analyse the words the netizens used to comment on the case. Thirdly,the roles of the netizens are divided in the several patterns. And finally, by studying all the aspects above, the thesis give out the conclusion that what the virtual interpersonal mode is.Actually,the virtual interpersonal mode is in some degree the copy and the extension of the interpersonal mode of the real world.It also follows the moral and behavioural standards of the real world.In the second part,the thesis discusses about the virtual interpersonal mode,which mainly includes the costracts among the identification of virtual oneself,the virtual self and oneself and the comparisons between the actual self and the virtual self. While the netizens are surfing the internet,they creat the virtual self by their own imaginations.And the image of the virtual self could be created by what they have said through the words written down.The procedures of creating one's virtual self are also the procedures of redefining oneself.And the virtual self online is also the recreation of the real self.Comparing with the real self,it has more variations and uncertainties. Secondly,the virtual self has some positive significances.The netizens could show some innner parts of themselves which are concealed and couldn't be seen by others in the real world.Because in the real world,there are so much restractions that one can't do anything freely.But,even the most free virtual self could not be equalled to the real self,it's just a form of one's real self without a mask.In some cases,the netizens hidden all of one's real selves and creat a totally different virtual role on the internet.But in one word,one's virtual self and real self interact with each other,they influnce each other and unite in one's ego.That is to say,the ego is the combination of one's virtual self and real self.The third part of this thesis discusses about the virtual characters in the virtual community.By defining about the virtual characters,we could learn that the behaviors of the virtual characters also reveal the one's real selves.In a word,the development of a person could not be clearly divided into two parts:one's development in the real world and on the internet.The overall development of a person is the combination of one's development both in the real world and on the internet.And to analyse the development of a person one should also pay attention to harmonious development between the real and virtual developments.
