With the development of wireless sensor networks, its application is from the military fields to civilian fields, and many cases of civilian fields is in indoor environment. However, being widely researched, the typical wireless sensor networks is not very suitable for the indoor environment. Therefore, this dissertation focuses on the particularity of indoor environment and studies the application method in this environment. The major contribution of this dissertation is specifically stated as follows:1) Focusing on the particularity of indoor environment, a multi subnet layered mobile WSN model based on indoor wired infrastructure is proposed, including WSN architecture and communication flow. In indoor environment, this model can sustain mobile nodes better and collect information more effectively, otherwise it is more fast, more reliability and more longevous than traditional plane architecture.2) Focusing on indoor WSN, this chapter gives a cross-layer energy-saving design with the minimum collision and the longest sleeping. This design method make the ratio of nodes working time reduce to 0.001.This method is used into the coal mine secure supervision system. The nodes can work 2800 hours now compared 24 hours before.3) Indoor WSN Prototype System is designed and implemented, including development of WSN node, RS-485 and position machine, then we test this system, analysis and evaluate its performance. Test results which ratio of lack packet is 0.3714%, ratio of error packet is 0.0345%, average current is about 185.78uA(can work 120 days), show that the Indoor WSN can meet the requirements of high reliability and long lifetime in practical applications.
