Projection display technology has been widely applied in people's production and life. While building the projector-based display systems, the limitation of projection environment will cause the geometry distortion of projection image on the screen, which will noticeably influences the effect and accuracy of projection display in scientific research, digital simulation, high-fidelity display, etc. Usually this problem can be solved by pre-calibrated the system and modified the projection content. But as time goes on, gravity, physical touch and other factors make the projection environment changes. Therefore it need stop the projection display to pre-calibrate again, which greatly influences the continuity of the projection display and make the maintenance of the system inconvenience. In response to the issue mentioned above, this paper proposes an online and continuous projection calibration method, and some relevant research work is performed, which includes the following parts.First of all, it reviews the development course of the method to build projector-based display systems, and analyzes the drawback of the current situation in projector calibration.Secondly, it proposes an online calculation method for the projection transformation parameters. This method use SURF to eliminate the difference between the camera image and projected image, e.g. scale, rotation, light intensity, blur, etc, which don't need to pre-calibrate the camera and projector, and calculate the online transform relations of the projector and camera by matching image features. In addition, it also proposes a continuous projector calibration method for projection content. In the case of the flat projection screen, this method, based on image pre-distortion theory, self-adapt to the change projection environment by online and continuous calibration and ensure the accuracy and continuity of projection screen. At the same time, it eliminates the noise in the re-calibration and maintains the stability of the projector content. Finally, it designs an online and continuous projector calibration experiment. And the results show that this method achieved good performance on calibration and display though.
