ABSTRACT:Recently, natural calamities and emergencies around the world have frequent occurrence, resulting in economic losses and increasing impact. In general, disasters and emergencies usually are sudden and unpredictable, which requires the network has high reliability and good delay, but the traditional means of communication cannot satisfy a fundamental need to address these emergencies. Therefore, It has become a hot spot to develop an emergency communications system with characteristics mentioned above in communications field. In this dissertation, an overview for the design and implementation of the real-time emergency communication system based on C/S structure was introduced, and a reasonable solution with highly mobile and small-scale communication was put forward. In the beginning, the paper described the background and status in the development of domestic and international emergency communications, and represented the characteristics and scopes in kinds of emergency communications systems. Following the article provided the detail analyses of Symbian OS and XMPP protocol, after that elaborated the overall design framework and supplied in-depth analyses and discussions on the key parts including communication mechanism, security and streaming media. In the end, the implementation of application modules were given in detail. The major innovations and researches include:First of all, on the basis of the analysis on current emergency communications system, we applied the real-time messaging and streaming media to emergency communication systems to implement small zone of text and voice communication by one-to-one and many-to-one transmission, which was took as an effective complement to the framework. Second, we adopted Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol XMPP as the communication protocol, which could be used in different operating systems and browsers to achieve instant messaging, multiuser text communication and other functions, and gave a detailed analyses of the protocol to ensure the correctness of design. Last, the implementation of client was based on smart phones while Symbian OS was used in the project, and the revised code could be transferred on different operating systems to realize interconnection among different systems.According to the research findings mentioned above, the dissertation utilized C/S network architecture, and applied open source Openfire as a server and Symbian Smartphone as a client to implement a set of real-time communication system and some modules based on the wireless communication function, finally validated the feasibility of program.
