Since Shanghai Oriental TV's talk show the East Live Room was set up in 1993, China's TV talk show has gone through 17 years. TV talk shows have become an indispensable TV program style to China's TV screens. According to the relevant statistics researched by CSM, there are 190 TV Talk Shows and more than 5,400 hours broadcast on more 153 cities'hundreds of channels on 6pm.-12pm. from January 1 to April 10 in 2009.However, the large number of TV talk shows does not mean the large number of classic programs. Especially when the landmark TV talk shows To Talk The True went off the air last year, many people are doubting why Chinese TV talk shows are always short-lived.So what are the causes that we cannot make our own TV talk shows as good as some foreign talk shows which are maintaining the enduring vitality? What are their secrets to succeed? By these questions, I compare our TV talk shows with some farmous foreign talk shows and then summarize some of the rules from the micro and macro perspective of the planning of television talk shows.Based on these ideas, this paper could fall into six chapters. Chapter I is prolegomenon, which introduced the research status quo, the research methods and innovative points of the TV talk show planning. Chapter 2 and 3 mainly talk about the concept and the development of TV talk shows, the elements and classification, compare Chinese TV talk shows with foreign TV talk shows. Chapter 4 to Chapter 6 respectively talk about brand,positioning,topic and hosts of the TV talk show planning .
