At present, the third Generation (3G) Mobile Communication construction is a hot topic, also the licenses of 3G has been assigned by China government in 2009. As we know, there three main standard of third Generation (3G) Mobile Communication System, they are WCDMA,CDMA2000 and TD-SCDMA, as one standard of three, CDMA2000 is one standard from North America and has the earliest commercial network. Alcatel-Lucent as a major CDMA2000 equipment company, has constructed the first CDMA200 lx RV-DO office in Macao.CDMA, as one of the main mobile wireless technologies, is evolving from the second generation (2G) cdmaOne to the third generation (3G) CDMA2000 technologies. The underlying principle of the CDMA2000 evolution path is backward and forward compatibility which allows operators to seamlessly and cost-effectively upgrade their existing networks to support enhanced capabilities and advanced services. The road map of the CDMA2000 network evolution is charged by the Third Generation Partnership Project 2 (3GPP2). For the core network, the CDMA network evolution is taking place from the circuit switched network, to a hybrid LMSD network, and then to the all IP Multimedia Domain (MMD) network.For the radio access network, the CDMA radio interfaces are evolving from the 2G cdmaOne-IS-95A to the CDMA2000 1x, then the 3G CDMA2000 EV-DO and EV-DV.5ESS Switch is a telephone switching system first introduced in 1982 by Lucent Technologies (formerly AT&T). It has evolved into a truly universal digital switch that meets all the telecommunications needs of the modern information age. 5ESS has a wide variety of applications as Locals Toll,MSC etc.. Its versatility, flexibility, reliability can upgrade easily with standard evolution of CDMA2000.This article introduces evolution plan of core network of CDMA2000 first, then gives a description of architecture of 5ESS, also it give us a compare of interfaces with cell station. One new interface (IPBPH) with cell station is issued in CDMA2000 1x EV-DO system, it has IP interface which is widely used in data communication, 5ESS can extend its life in the future.
