Network protocol plays an important role in the teaching process of computer network, but it is difficult to learn for beginners because of the complexity and abstraction. Network protocol refers to a set of rules that controls two equal entities to communicating. Its syntax and semantics define separately the format of the exchanging information and the operation to be completed by the sender or recipient. The synchronization of network protocol specifies the communicating sequential between the entities. For the computer network, the protocol is of great importance, which commands its information exchanging and dissemination, just like the road traffic rules. Therefore, it has importantly practical significance for the teaching of "computer network", to use the Network Simulator for the simulative design of network protocol and the visual demonstration of its working process. In order to further improve the network of modern computer-assisted teaching, this paper undertakes a study for the NS2-based computer network curriculum support teaching demonstration case and carries out the main researches as follows:1) Introducing a network-based NS2 simulative technology.2) Analyzing of the characteristics of ALOHA, CSMA/CD, CSMA/CA and other network protocols at MAC (Medium Access Control) layer and Studying the contents and forms of the demonstration experiment at MAC layer and accomplishing the development of the examples basing on NS2.3) Analyzing of TCP protocol, researching its contents and forms and accomplishing the development of the examples basing on NS2.
