SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) the full name of which is called synchronous digital hierarchy, is recognized worldwide as a new generation of broadband transmission system. SDH system regulates the level of digital signal transmission rate, frame structure, multiplexing mode and optical interface characteristics and so on.Today, the highly developed information society requires communication networks which could provide a wide range of telecommunications services.The amount of information transmitted, switched and processed by telecommunication networks will continue to increase. This requires that modern telecommunication networks should develop in the digital, integrated, intelligent and personal direction.Transmission system is the important part of communication networks, and its quality will directly restrict the development of communication networks.At present the world is developing information highway, and one of the priorities is the formation of its high-capacity optical transmission networks.The SDH/WDM-based optical transmission network is the most basic physical platform of the highway. Transmission network should have an uniform interface standard throughout the world, in order that each user around the world could easily communicate anywhere and anytime.According to the basic requirements of establishing SDH transmission network, this paper makes a local network engineering design of China Unicom in Dalian, and the engineering construction of Dalian.Unicom local network is realized.
