Most of the traditional image monitoring systems are designed based on PC platform, using wire transmission method to transmit data, which, to some extent, increases size and power consumption of system, and also limits the application scope of the system. The design of image acquisition and wireless transmission system based on ARM9 that has many advantages, including low power and wireless transmission has solved those problems and therefore can be widely applied in many occasions, such as industrial field and security and defense field.This paper designs an image acquisition and wireless transmission system based on embedded platform of ARM9. Firstly the paper focuses on the transplant of Linux operating systems. Then the paper achieves the transplant of CMOS image sensors and wireless network card into the embedded platform, and programs applications so that these devices can work normally. In order to increase application of system, the paper also integrates an embedded Web server into the embedded system.This system integrates image acquisition, wireless transmission, and server into a whole system. On the hardware side, ARM9 has many advantages of small size, low power consumption and high efficiency. The design of embedded systems has high integration and stability. On the software side, embedded Linux system has such advantages as high stability, easy portability and excellent networking capabilities. With the addition of wireless transmission technology, the system solves the disadvantages of existing monitoring system that is not flexible and is limited by the range of applications. Experimental results show that the resolution of the images is 480×272; the transmission of wireless network speeds up to 5Mbps. So the system meets the requirements of most monitoring situations, and therefore has a wide prospect of applications.
