Impulse radio-based ultra wideband (IR-UWB) wireless communication technology which has a high transmission rate, system capacity, high positioning accuracy, anti-multipath capability, etc.,has been a hot spot in the short-range wireless communications research. However, due to the very short duration of IR-UWB signal pulse, power constraints, and a dense multi-path channels characteristics, it is difficult that we accurately synchronize the received signal This topic makes a comprehensive research on synchronization and acquisition algorithm for IR-UWB in multipath channels.In this paper, firstly, introduce the background and significance of the IR-UWB communication research, analysis the channel model,signal models and system receiver, then discuss of the existing synchronization and acquisition methods of the IR-UWB communication system and discover the major research in synchronization and acquisition algorithm is designed to a short time, low complexity, and high-performance.Secondly, a two-stage synchronization and acquisition strategy based on TH-PPM-UWB,complete the first searching stage through the characteristics of Serial Block Search algorithm, then in the second searching stage, make use of the Reduce-by-half Search algorithm to achieve fine acquisition, simulation results show that the proposed algorithm increases the complexity of hardware at the appropriate cases, greatly reduces the time of average acquisition and improve the efficiency of detection, the performance is most evident especially in the case of low SNR, suit for the actual indoor multipath channel environment, and can be applied to the ultra-wideband signal receiver.Finally, propose a synchronization and acquisition strategy about MAX/TC criterion with auxiliary sequences based DS-BPSK-UWB on this basis of the MAX/TC criterion,then make a theoretical analysis deeply about the performance of acquisition and the average acquisition time,and finally make a simulation experiment in the ultra-wideband channel environment.Theoretical analysis and experimental results show that a MAX/TC criterion with auxiliary sequences synchronization and acquisition strategy decrease the time of PN sequence synchronization acquisition in the case of ensuring the performance of acquisition.
