This thesis examines the impact of Signage System Design on the Museums'(Art galleries') interpretation of values and ideas of reference. As the concentration of human thoughts, culture, history and arts, the museums cannot be ignored in our lives. With the development of the museum, its characteristic of public service becomes more notable. The Signage System is an indispensable communication channel between the museums and the public. It is practical and aesthetic. By comparing the Signage System Design of two domestic museums (Beijing Planetarium and Beijing Natural History Museum) and proceeding a exchange experiment, both functional and aesthetic defects were found. Thus, the author states that the importance of the Signage System Design is beyond the basic functions. The key is to explore the possibility of broader interpretations of Signage System Design for museums. The reference of this idea is provided by the collations and interpretations of the visual elements including the architecture of museums and collections, and that of the non-visual elements such as space, texture and epoch sense and combined with the analysis of existing Signage System Design cases from domestic and foreign museums.
