With the development of computer technique, embedded system is used in more and more fields. However, people mainly use PC in file transmission, whether in personal application or business application. Normally, PC is much more expensive than embedded system. So, go with the tide of embedded system development, I put forward an embedded file transmission system which based on ARM.Microprocessor S3C2440A and network controller DM9000 are the most important parts in this system. This thesis can be divided into the following parts. First, study of hardware architecture of the embedded system based on S3C2440A, analyzing in details about all modules in the smallest system of ARM. Second, set up the cross compile environment, which is necessary for exploiting embedded system on PC. Third, modify, configurate and cross-compile the Bootloader,Linux kernel and device drivers, and produce a root filesystem which is fitting the embedded system. After the three steps above, a multifunction Linux embedded system has been created. Then study of FTP and Telnet protocol, transplanting and configurating Busybox toolbox software and VSFTP server software. After that, file transmission and remote login can be carried out on this system.The embedded flie transmission system, which is based on ARM, meets the design requirements and achieves the intended goals. FTP and Telnet protocol has been built in this system. It can let users to transmit files and remote login the system. Compared with the traditional file transmission systems, it is cheaper, smaller and consume less power. So, it can be widely use in the applications which is sensitive about cost, power consumption or portability.
