Presently, for most of medical institutions, fairly developed hospital information system is established. The system is mainly used for payment collection. With the need of medical institutions' self-improvement and further application of information technology, clinical information system intended for clinical work is becoming the focus of each medical institution's information development, among which the development of electric patient records (EPR) remains the main concern.During the process of EPR development, there are two ways of information storage, namely, free text and semi-structured XML description classified by its description and storage. Currently, Word editor is used in many hospitals and cases are stored electronically by way of free text; seemingly the input and storage methods are changed. A gap needs to be narrowed down if retrieval and statistics application are considered.Based on analysis of the composition and structure of EPR and introduction of key XML technology related to EPR, in view of the existing main technology difficulties for realizing EPR, the XML storage methods of EPR in accordance with the structure of EPR and with the shared with cases is brought forward. According to the shift of data categories in the process of data assembly, based on the XML files storage characteristics of new hospital electric patient records information system, a method is put forward to improve the two-way shift and map between XML and relational data mode to realize the testing query and ultimately to testify the feasibility of storage plan and mapping strategy. This thesis is mainly on the storage, assembly and convertion of EPR, to bridge the gap between free text electronic cases storage methods and XML's in the aspects of data share, data management and data query.
