With the rapid development of high-rise blocks in our society, vertical elevator has become an integral part of daily-life transport tool. Rope, an important part of the elevator system, will be faced with various types of stress, friction and corrosion. These will make ropes to be fatigue and broken. Due to elevator accident caused by elevator wire rope testing failures have occurred many times. It brought great risks to the safety of using lifts. Nowadays people pay more and more attention on elevator safety. Thus the surface defect detection in elevator wire rope safety has a great practical significance. This paper describe the system which achieve the rapid detection of elevator rope surface defects.It based on in-depth study of existing methods and techniques in image recognition. The image information detecting system of elevator wire rope is designed both with hardware and software. The main as follows:First, in the study of image processing technology, this paper research the image preprocessing techniques such as image acquisition and gray-scale conversion based on image characteristics of the elevator rope surface. An improved median filter algorithm based on existing technology is proposed to solve noise filtering problem ofdetect image noise. And the interpolation techniques is used to achieve the correction of wire rope surface. The detection of the wire rope surface defects depends on the GLCM parameters to get the texture feature. The threshold is set to determine whether there are defects in the image, and in accordance with the edge detection and morphological algorithm to detect the defects image.Secondly, the hardware of the image information detecting system of elevator wire rope is built. For the surface characteristics of wire rope, the system has many parts. CCD camera, it makes wire rope image converted to analog video signal and transport the data to the image acquisition module real-time. Image acquisition module, based on high-performance DSP, TMS320VC5501 TI as the core. It combined with the video signal conversion circuit, the image buffer memory devices, FLASH memory, external power supply circuit and the communication interface. It realized the acquisition of the wire rope image. Data transmission module, the image data is sent to the host computer through it. The data is saved to the computer memory by the program for the image storage and computing.Finally, the host computer interface software of the image information detecting system of elevator wire rope is designed with the application of Visual C++ programming tools. It includes the software functions of image acquisition, image pre-processing, texture feature extraction, image edge detection and image morphological processing algorithms.
