Dynamic Matrix Control (DMC), which appeared in 1979, is a new type of computer control method and one of the most representative algorithms. It has received increasing attention in the field of control and industry. The dynamic matrix control was researched in the paper, concluding the basic principle, the advantage of the algorithm and the effect of the parameters on performance. Simulation research was done for one-tank and two-tank model of coupled-tank. The algorithm was applied on control of its level. The main content is as follows:(1) The principles of the dynamic matrix control were analyzed and the advantages and defaults in practice were compared with that of traditional PID control.(2) The mechanics principles of coupled-tank plant were analyzed and the non-linear models were set; linear approximations were done in the near of working point and coupled-tank's non-linear models were realized in the MATLAB/Simulink.(3) Dynamic performance, anti-interference ability and robustness of dynamic matrix control algorithm were compared with that of several other commonly used control algorithm in the MATLAB/Simulink simulation.(4) DMC and PI-DMC controllers were designed to control the level of one-tank and two-tank. MATLAB simulation research showed that the improved algorithm can obtain better control effect in both the response time and the steady-state performance.(5)Control system of the Coupled-Tank was built by data acquisition card Q4, universal power module UPM-2405 and computer, and the predictive control of the Coupled-Tank plant was done by using the real-time control software QuanRC and MATLAB.
