With the development of Computer hardware technology, the storage capacity of personal computer is growing, which allow users to store more resources. In the traditional resource management, users are used to adopt classification method to manage these resources, such as File-to-Folder category-level directory resource management. However, the fact that users do not have the professional concept of the organization of resources classification brings two bad impacts. On one hand, it usually leads to a strong personal subjectivity and blindness to the users on the classification management of resources, which are not conducive to find and locate the resources in the future. On the other hand, a resource can not be put into two category directories at the same time because of the redundancy of resources and the difficulty of consistent maintenance in the traditional resource classification management. So when the content of a resource itself is not belong to the category only, traditional resources classification management can not allow users to effectively locate and find resources.Semantic Desktop technology is a desktop resource management technology based on the Semantic Web. This technology use a clear, formal way to represent information resources, enhance the interoperability between heterogeneous systems, and promote knowledge sharing, which allows users to faster and more convenient access to various resources on the computer.Taking into account the traditional resource management category method's drawbacks, this paper presents the technical mechanisms of semantic directory. Semantic directory is built based on the Semantic Web and Semantic Desktop technology. Firstly, the file system in local system will be transferred to semantic resource with the semantic resource description language RDF(S) (Resource Description Framework)/( Resource Description Framework Schema). Based on these semantic resources, it realizes the semantic directory by making user's directory operations map to the Semantic RDF, in view of the words - concept of semantic similarity calculation and mapping technology. The semantic directory technology maintains the resources location method of the user's traditional classification directory structure, while enhances the resources semantic correlation of the local resources in the file system. Therefore, it achieves the semantic-level classification and semantic recognition resource location.
