Non-photorealistic rendering is an interesting research topic and has wide applications in education, cartoon, entertainment, multimedia and net working. We combine the existing algorithms about 2D cartoon water and the simulation of fluids with physical process, and propose a novel framework for 3D cartoon water modeling and rendering.Our approach can not only be used in the real-time animation, but also preserves features of hand-drawn cartoon water animation in 3D.In this dissertation, we first introduce the simulation of fluids with physical process and its classic solution methods:grid-based methods and particle-based methods.Then describe our 3D cartoon water modeling and rendering system. Our 3D cartoon water system is composed of 3 parts:simulation of fluids based on smoothed particle hydrodynamics, abstraction of rendering surface, and 2D non-photorealistic texture rendering.All relevant examples are given in the dissertation.
