Xu Baohuang is regarded as the founder of journalism in China, whose news ideas has received wide attention by domestic scholars over the past decade. There has already been certain academic coverage on Xu's journalism ideas from the standpoints of news ethics, news origins, news editing ect, yet a systematic news ideology of his and its corresponding evolution phases in different historical periods is seldom analyzed nonetheless.Based on comprehensive reading of Xu's famous works Journalism and related materials, the author employs multiple research methods including comprehensive literature analysis and case analysis, ect. A meticulous analysis on Xu's journalism ideology, for instance, its nature, derivation, function, edit, press management, ethics and talent philosophy, etc, is conducted in the paper. On this basis, a fundamental awareness on Xu Baohuang's journalism ideology has been formed that though with the thoughts originated from America, Xu has combined his meditation on western news theories with China's national conditions and forged a set of integrated journalism theories and ideas. Not only is the book Journalism a concrete demonstration of the evolution and development of Xu's news ideology, what truly matters is his thorough penetration into the nature, derivation, function, edit, press management, ethics and talent philosophy of journalism in China. As the beacon, these ideas enlightened the country in ushering into a new era of mass dissemination, which are still of great academic value to many scholars. Xu Baohuang, as the first person to introduce the concept to China, with his long-established reputations and enduring praises among the circle, lived up to the name of "father of journalism" in China. Xu Baohuang's insistence in esteeming liberalism on news, advocating freedom of speech, opposing to autocratic speech not only helped flourish the sector of journalism to certain extent, but also contributed to the democratization progress of our country by developing the collective intelligence of civilians.
