With the rapid growth of IP services, traditional transmission networks can not meet the needs of service development, and transmission networks begin to evolve in the direction of intelligent networks, which can support dynamic and flexible allocation of bandwidth. In this context, the Automatically Switched Optical Network (ASON) comes into being.In this paper, we firstly give a brief introduction on the development and evolution of intelligent optical network technologies, with the focus on their architectures and features. Differences between ASON and traditional optical networks are also given. Taking Lanzhou Telecom transmission network as an example, we then make a detailed description for the current network status. Based on the studies through the existing network, its architecture and service occupancy statistics, problems in the existing network are identified. Combined with the current CDMA service development, these directly give rise to the new network construction proposal which can meet future needs. Next, focusing on the characteristics of CDMA service, we plan and construct the corresponding transmission network, which has high bandwidth utilization, strong expansion potential, utilizes quick configuration circuit technology and carries the core service of CDMA. Through the newly-constructed ASON network, core service needs for the CDMA networks, bandwidth requirements for base stations, and value-added services demands can all be addressed.Finally, we describe the significance of ASON technology in the CDMA transmission network in Lanzhou Telecom and make the conclusion.
