With development of virtual assembly technology, virtual assembly system brings new requirements for engineering data management system. Compare to traditional assembly, many new things such virtual product modeling and virtual reality environment are involved in virtual assembly, which leads to more engineering data. General mechanical products are extensive used in virtual assembly system; these products have the features such as been widely used, often reused and standard parameters. Traditional engineering database management doesn't consider these features, which lead to many problems such as complex process, long processing time and long processing cycle. In order to solve these problems, this dissertation studies key technologies of engineering database management system technology of general machinery products virtual assembly include data types and structures, project management. Firstly, this dissertation presents the background and theory on the status of the research, explore the relevant theoretical knowledge of the virtual assembly and engineering database management and establish general machinery product information model of virtual assembly in according to general machinery product characteristics. Secondly, based on the information model of general machinery products virtual assembly, research the key technologies of the engineering management system; include system data types and structures and version management. And propose three-tier information model and version management methods based on goal programming; finally, we develop a prototype of engineering database management system to validate our study.
