Motor soft start and soft stop, as a new energy saving system has been widely used in various types of drives. The demanding for Soft starter is becoming more and more such that many famous companies (such as Siemens, Schneider) are working on producing the high-quality Soft starter. As a key part of the Soft starter production, the research and Industrialization on Soft starter test system has great application value. The traditional Soft starter test system has many weaknesses, for example, huge bulk, complicated structure, difficulty of extension, lower efficiency et al. A lot of attention has been paid to the research and development of Soft starter test system using Virtual Instrument technology. Now the related news is not too much. According to the requirements of customer, this project is to design Soft starter test system using virtual instrument.Our Soft starter test system uses Virtual Instrument. It is composed of two parts: hardware and software system. We first introduce the hardware structure design, including the design of source power, Computer, instrument and meter library, loaded part. We emphasize on the exploitation environment, design process, function and application of the virtual instrument software. Moreover, we give detailed description of important tests, and present the corresponding implementation flow chart and parts of program. We present four layer logic architecture of virtual instrument in the software design, which greatly reduces software's dependence on hardware environment and application objects. The test system structure and key program are applied to other different types of soft starter. For some difficult problems encountered in the developing, we give detailed feasible solutions. The project passed the customer test in November 2009, and has already been used in application. The result of the application shows that the system has higher efficiency, better stability and more reliable security.
